Ortensia Lopez, Executive Director, El Concilio of San Mateo County [ECSMC]
Ortensia has been at the helm of ECSMC for over a decade. She has dedicated her professional life to advocating for the poor and disadvantaged having provided leadership to a number of nonprofit organizations in San Mateo. Ms. Lopez was a co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Bay Area Latino Non-Profit Association (CEO), CEO of North Peninsula Neighborhood Services Center. She brings an impressive record of accomplishments to her current role having been responsible for developing and successfully managing innovative programs that address social, economic, employment and health disparities among low wealth/income communities within San Mateo County through over 30 years of service.
Recognized as one of San Mateo’s top non- profit leaders, she serves on a number of influential boards and commissions including Chair of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Low Income Oversight Board, the Chicana/ Latina Foundation Board, as well as Advisory Committees for Commercial Bank and One California Bank to name a few. In addition to these organizations, Ms. Lopez is a former board member for the Greenlining Institute and works with the Latino Issue Forum, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, California Energy Efficiency Commission, and the California Community/ Business Partnership on Diversity.
Her efforts and accomplishments have earned her recognition from Hispanic Magazine Women’s Foundation, the San Mateo County Women’s Hall of fame, the Simon Bolivar Leadership Award, the California Latino Civil Rights Network Award and most recently, the prestigious “Women Who Could be President” award. Ortensia holds a M.S. in Urban/ Social Planning from USC and is a graduate of the Institute for Executives of Non-Profits from the University of Massachusetts.
